Grocery TV is Clerk's core marketing product, and the largest digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising network in grocery, with an initial focus on point-of-sale advertising displays. The vision for the Grocery TV product is to make it easier for advertisers to reach their audience at every key point along the retail shopping journey.

About the role

Clerk is looking for a QA Engineer to help test, troubleshoot, and improve the overall quality of its network of IoT devices. As a member of Clerk’s engineering team, you will work closely with engineering leadership, product, operations, and business team to support existing devices in the field and work on the next generation of devices that will support the future of the business.

The Clerk team is primarily based here in Austin, with a handful of remote employees. For this role, we're looking for someone who enjoys the office environment and face-to-face interactions -- we expect you to be in the office at least 2-3 days per week, with greater frequency in the early stages as you're getting to know our team and systems.

About your new team

You'll be a core engineering team member, reporting directly to the VP of Engineering. Our current Engineering team comprises staff from various backgrounds in hardware and software. Our founders built our company and its products - they continue to take an active role in the company's evolution and technical direction. We expect you to help shape and guide the next generation of Clerk's products while continuing to support its existing customer base.

Responsibilities
Test, Troubleshoot, and Maintain the existing versions of devices in use.
  • Our flagship product, Grocery TV, runs as an Android device. Continuing to help stress test, debug, troubleshoot and support the 16000+ devices currently in the field will be critical to the business's continued success.
Collaborate with Engineering leadership to develop strong Quality practices 
  • Bringing a Quality first mindset, you will be responsible for shaping the direction of how our devices are tested, supported, and removed from the field. Creating a mature process that we can implement across generations of devices and software will be crucial to the success of the Engineering team and business.
Debug, Triage, and Troubleshoot problems from existing devices in the field
  • Your critical thinking skills and problem-solving mindset will be instrumental in the continued success of Clerk as issues from devices deployed in the field are discovered. Working alongside Engineering, your insights will be instrumental in determining how the product continues to evolve.
Be willing to break, stress, and push devices and software to their full potential
  • You will need a mad-inventor mindset to come up with new possibilities and scenarios (in which devices and software can fail, error, or act erratically) to achieve the longevity of our products.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience working in a QA position
  • Knowledge of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes, both manual and automated
  • A solid understanding of device testing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving
  • Hands-on experience with testing devices, preferably Android
  • Familiarity with hardware testing such as power monitoring, firmware testing, and peripheral management is a strong plus
  • An intense curiosity and driven mentality to take on new challenges and see them through to completion
  • Experience working with Hardware teams, especially device design and manufacturing, is a strong plus.
Compensation

As a part of our commitment to transparency, we use a market-based formula that provides consistency across roles & experience levels and publish all of our compensation data internally for our team. We’re open to a range of experience levels for this position. Here are the annual salaries for each level:

  • Software QA Engineer I: $114,000 
  • Software QA Engineer II: $127,000
